Doctrine

Right doctrine defines right practice. At times, it is difficult to sort through theological beliefs and determine what God has really communicated with us in His word. Yet, I believe that He has made clear to us that which He deemed important, and those precepts which are clear define how we live. The following is a brief outline of such beliefs that define who I am and how I live my life.

The Bible

I believe in the divine inspiration by the Holy Spirit in the original manuscripts of the scriptures in their whole as written by human authors. I believe that the Holy Spirit illuminates for believers the meaning of the Bible. I believe in the Bible's authority as the primary source of truth and guidance in every claim. (Exodus 17:14, Jeremiah 30:1-2, 2 Timothy 3:16-17 and 2 Peter 1:20-21, Psalm 12:6, Psalm 119:160, John 10:35, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, John 16:12-15)

The Triune God

I believe in the trinitarian nature of God. God is three distinct persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. I believe that He is one unified God. (Matthew 28:19, John 1:1, 2 Corinthians 13:14, 1 Peter 1:1-2, Deuteronomy 6:4, Isaiah 43:10, Isaiah 45:5-7, John 1:1-3, John 10:30-33)

Jesus Christ

I believe that Jesus Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. I believe that Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully man. I believe that He was able to sin, and was tempted, but remained sinless. I believe in the death of Jesus as the propitiation for our sins and in his bodily resurrection. I believe that He ascended into heaven where He sits at the right hand of the Father. (Matthew 1:18-25, Luke 1: 26-35, Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 4:1-2, Luke 24:39, Hebrews 1:8, Hebrews 2:14, John 17:5, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 4:15, Philippians 2:7, Isaiah 53:4-5, Luke 24:36-39, Romans 3:25, 1 Corinthians 15:12-19, Colossians 1:19-22, Acts 1: 9-11, Ephesians 1:19-21, Philipians 2: 9-11)

God the Holy Spirit

I believe in the person-hood of the Holy Spirit, who is fully God. I believe that the Holy Spirit guides, empowers and convicts each Christian. (Psalm 139:7, Acts 5:3-4, 1 Corinthians 3:16, John 14:16-17, Acts 2:38, 1 Corinthians 12:3, Ephesians 1:13-14, John 16:8, 13-14, 1 Corinthians 2:13, Acts 1:8)

I believe that the Holy Spirit gives certain spiritual gifts to every believer, which are to be used for the edification of the church. I believe that the Spirit gives the gifts as He wills and that every gift originally given is still available and active today. (Romans 12:6-8, Ephesians 4:11-16, 1 Peter 4:10-11, 1 Corinthians 12:1, 4-10, 1 Corinthians 14:1-39)

The Human Race

I believe that mankind was created in the image of God. I believe that mankind sinned and fell, becoming separated from God. (Genesis 1:26-27, 1 Corinthians 11:7, James 3:9, Genesis 3, Romans 3:23, Romans 5:12, Psalm 51:5, Psalm 58:3, Ephesians 2:3)

Salvation

I believe that salvation is available to all people through the one means of Jesus Christ. It is not achieved by any means of man. I believe that salvation is experienced through belief in Jesus' death and resurrection and the acceptance of His grace. (John 3:5-7, 16, Ephesians 2:8-9, 1 Peter 1:18-19, Isaiah 55:6-7, John 1:12, Acts 2:38, Romans 10:17, 1 John 1:9)
